On a lively day in Sembabule, the District Grounds stadium buzzed with excitement. While the sports gala united the community in celebration, it was the clean cooking campaign that stole the spotlight. Led by Hon. Shartsi Musherure, Member of Parliament for Mawogola North, this initiative seized the festive atmosphere to unveil innovative cooking solutions. Partnering with the National Renewable Energy Platform (NREP) and the Uganda National Alliance on Clean Cooking (UNACC), the campaign aimed to educate and inspire the adoption of healthier, eco-friendly cooking technologies.
The campaign pavilion became a hub of curiosity as attendees explored cutting-edge clean cooking options. Biogas stoves and electric pressure cookers (EPCs) took center stage, brought to life through dynamic demonstrations that showcased their ease and efficiency. Hon. Musherure rolled up her sleeves, personally demonstrating the EPC’s capabilities. “It’s time for healthier homes and a greener district,” she proclaimed, striking a chord with the enthusiastic crowd.
Adding her voice to the cause, Ms. Jane Francis Kagayi, the Resident District Commissioner, emphasized the broader implications of the initiative. “Clean cooking is not just about convenience; it’s about our health and our environment,” she urged, inspiring attendees to consider the long-term impact of their choices.

The partnership with UNACC proved instrumental, lending expertise and credibility to the event. Their team engaged directly with the public, answering questions and providing detailed insights into the showcased technologies. This hands-on approach fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation among attendees.
The community’s response was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees were captivated by the EPC’s speed and cleanliness, with many purchasing the devices right then and there. “I had no idea cooking could be this simple and clean,” one participant shared, a sentiment echoed across the crowd as people left inspired and equipped for change.

The Sembabule clean cooking campaign was a triumph, blending fun with education and delivering real results. By pairing the sports gala with interactive demos, backed by local leaders and UNACC’s expertise, the event created a compelling case for sustainable living. It’s a model that other districts can emulate—a testament to the power of community engagement in driving change.
NREP and its partners are determined to keep the momentum going, bringing the clean cooking revolution to every corner of Uganda. With each event, the dream of healthier households and a sustainable future inches closer—one cookstove at a time.
