Productive Use of Energy

Purpose

The purpose of the Subcommittee on Productive Use of Energy within the Off-Grid Energy Working Group (OGEWG) is to lead discussions and initiatives concerning the strategic utilization of energy for productive purposes. Its primary objective is to explore and address the challenges and opportunities associated with leveraging off-grid energy solutions to support income-generating activities, job creation, and economic development in underserved communities.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Market Assessment:
    • Conduct assessments to identify high-potential productive use applications in different regions and sectors.
  2. Technology Adaptation:
    • Support the adaptation and localization of productive use technologies to meet specific needs of Ugandan communities.
  3. Business Model Development:
    • Develop and promote sustainable business models for productive use of energy applications.
  4. Value Chain Integration:
    • Facilitate integration of energy solutions into agricultural, commercial, and industrial value chains.
  5. Impact Measurement:
    • Establish frameworks for measuring and reporting the socio-economic impacts of productive use initiatives.
